Breath as a tool, not a mood

Structured breathing techniques — box breath, the physiological sigh, extended-exhale breathing under load — for people who need to steady themselves for real. Practice in the MizuMind app. Free on iOS and Android.

The one lever you always have

Breath is the one part of your nervous system you can influence directly — no equipment, no privacy required, no time cost. MizuMind's breathing sessions are built on techniques drawn from military and high-performance communities, not invented from scratch: box breath, the physiological sigh, and extended-exhale breathing for when you can't fully slow down.

Box breath (4-4-4-4)

Four counts in through the nose, four counts held, four counts out through the mouth, four counts held. One cycle runs about 16 seconds; four cycles run about a minute. The extended exhale is what does the work — it signals the parasympathetic nervous system to stand down.

The physiological sigh

Two inhales through the nose — the second topping off the lungs past the first — then one long exhale through the mouth. Under ten seconds. It's the involuntary big sigh your body already takes under stress; doing it on purpose short-circuits the spike faster than a single slow breath does.
